In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, I thought I’d add a fun kids craft and other cultural events taking place in town to be aware of.

Around this time last year during my kid’s Spanish class their amazing teacher, Carol Edwards, Manager Director of Language Logix, Inc. had my kids make maracas. A year later my kids still take these maracas out and create beautiful music to my ears! HA! I also love that while making this fun craft they learned basic Spanish words and were taught the tradition behind celebrating, The Day of the Dead which is celebrated on November 2nd and has a long history in Mexican Tradition.

One of the many benefits of the au pair program that I love is the cultural influence that your au pair brings into your home and the exposure of their language and history.

If you are looking for cultural events to share with your family or to do with your friends or significant other, here are a few ideas to consider.

The CineLatino Film Festival is a 4-day, cultural celebration of Latino Cinema. With 13 titles, the festival features a healthy mix of feature and documentary films, along with new and repertory titles.

Mexican Burnt Candy

My son struggles tying his shoes. He gets them tied loosely only to be frustrated an hour later when they are untied again. I saw a similar video on Macaroni Kid. This is great and so simple! My son’s shoe tying issue has been solved. His confidence has been boosted and another milestone accomplished. Yay!

love our meetings
Au Pair Meeting
Despite the cool weather and rain, we enjoyed ice cream, played a few games and each child was able to decorate a Frisbee to take home with their au pairs home country flag. Thank you for coming out!
September compliance

This is the time of year many au pairs will begin thinking about their education compliance. The most common question that I receive from au pairs is this.

Are host families responsible for paying my gas to and from class?

HOST FAMILY COMPLIANCE: Host families are responsible for covering reasonable transportation expenses including gasoline, parking, or public transportation costs (if applicable) to and from the local place of instruction.

TIP: If your au pair does not have use of the family car, it is best if the course is accessible by public transportation, as you are responsible for covering transportation costs or providing transportation to and from the class. Safety for your au pair is always a top priority as well. Be mindful of the pick-up/drop-off location and the time of day your au pair will be traveling to attend educational classes if traveling by bus or light rail.

Exciting News!

I will be the local consultant for the Parker area as well as continuing to work with my amazing families in Castle Rock. The noticeable change will be for our au pairs who will have a bigger group of community au pairs to support each other and a network to create and establish friendships.
